Support at the Courts Martial
Victim Support also works with the Ministry of Defence to provide a Witness Service for witnesses attending the Courts Martial.
As well as giving witnesses a point of contact for information before the court case it has trained volunteers to give information about Courts Martial procedures. Our volunteers also give emotional support and can keep you company while you're waiting to give evidence as well as sitting in court while you testify. We can also help you with information on the Military Court Service staff, the judge advocate & prosecutor or defence lawyer and explain how to deal with cross examination. If you are a young or vulnerable withess we can help arrange special support and, for example, sit with you if you are giving evidence by a TV link..
The Courts Martial Witness Service is entirely independent of the military and the help we give is both free and confidential. Both civilian and service witnesses can get support and help is available in the UK and in Germany. Support may also be available elsewhere in the world on request (excluding war zones).
