Diane Turner is the Co-ordinator of the Crown Court Witness Service. Diane was previously in the Probation Service.

The Crown Court Witness Service is managed by a sub-committee of Basildon & Castle Point Victim Support and its members are:

The Basildon and Southend Crown Court Witness Service provides support for victims, witnesses and their families before during and after the trial.

Witness details are notified in confidence to the Witness Service prior to the hearing and the services offered are explained to those witnesses by a leaflet sent to them.

The Witness Service will provide:

  • a pre-trial visit to Court
  • general information on Court procedures
  • someone to go into the Courtroom with the witness
  • emotional support before and after the hearing
  • referral to Victim Support or another agency if desired

The Witness Service does not:

  • discuss evidence
  • offer legal advice

The service is offered by volunteer staff trained to rigorous national standards.

The Service is the pilot project for Essex. The Magistrates Court Witness Service is managed by a sub-committee of the Scheme. The Chair is Peter Whent who is Vice-Chair of the Scheme.

The Basildon Magistrates Court Witness Service provides support for victims, witnesses and their families before during and after the trial.

Witness details are notified in confidence to the Witness Service prior to the hearing.

The Witness Service will provide:
